Civil Structural Health Monitoring Laboratory (CSHM)

Welcome to the Civil Structural Health Monitoring (CSHM) Laboratory

At the CSHM Lab, we focus on advancing sensor-based technologies for the condition assessment and safe operation of critical infrastructure systems—including bridges, buildings, dams, and other structural assets. Our research combines cutting-edge sensing, data analytics, and modeling to ensure the resilience and longevity of these vital systems. Our team has designed and deployed structural health monitoring (SHM) systems for several iconic structures, including the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges in New York City, as well as numerous other sites across the United States and around the world.

The CSHM Lab is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for structural testing and modeling. We specialize in the development of fiber optic sensor systems and the construction of structural prototypes for pre-construction safety evaluations. Many of our projects integrate Digital Twin technology and the Internet of Things (IoT) to enable real-time monitoring and proactive maintenance of infrastructure.

Through our interdisciplinary approach, we aim to push the boundaries of SHM research and contribute to the creation of safer, smarter, and more sustainable infrastructure.
